Reading Time: 5 minutes

On this next case, you might have seen it on TV or you might have watched the reenactment on the CBS series Criminal Minds, this is the case on the Slender Men Stabbings.

The Slender Man is fictional character that was created on an online forum called Something Awful in 2009 Photoshop paranormal image contest. The Slender man myths was later expanded by a number of other people who created the fan fiction and additional changes were made to the figure.

Slender Man is a tall, thin character with a white face and head with no features. He is known to wear a black suit and is sometimes shown with tentacles coming out of his back.

According to the myths, the Slender Man can cause amnesia, coughing and paranoid behavior in individuals and he is known to be hiding in forests or stalking children.

On May 31, 2014, in Waukesha, Wisconsin, when 2, 12 year old girls, Anissa Weier and Morgan Geyser, lured their best friend Payton Leutner into the woods and stabbed her 19 times in an attempt to become proxies of the fictional character, Slender Man.

The actual attacked took place in a nearby forest, during a game of hide-and-seek on May 31st. Payton was pinned down where she was stabbed in her arms, legs and torso with a kitchen knife with a 5 inch long blade. 2 of the wounds were to major organs, one missed a major artery by her heart by less than a millimeter and the other went through her diaphragm, cutting into her stomach and liver.

Anissa and Morgan told Payton they would find help but they did not get any upon leaving and wanted to leave her for dead. Payton eventually drug herself to a nearby road where she was found by a cyclist where they called 911 when he saw her.

Anissa and Morgan were later arrested near interstate 94 at a furniture store after walking almost 5 miles. The knife that was used to stab Payton was in a bag that they were carrying. While Morgan had no remorse or empathy for what happened to Payton, Anissa was described as feeling very guilty for the stabbing event that took place, but felt it needed to happen for the Slender Man to feel proud of them.

Payton left the hospital 7 days after the attack and returned to school in September of 2014.

Now I was looking at these pictures of this Slender Man, I’m going to say I was a little freaked out by this creature, its just weird. A man a very tall man, no face, its just creepy.

In 2017, Anissa Weier pled guilty to being a party to attempted second degree homicide. A jury then found them “not guilty by mental disease or defect.” Morgan Geyser accepted a plea offer under she would not go to trail and would be evaluated by psychiatrics to determine how long she should be put into the mental hospital. She later pled guilty by was found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect and was diagnosed with schizophrenia, from which her father also suffers from.

Anissa was sentenced to 25 years to life an indeterminate sentence involved at least 3 years locked confinement and involuntary treatment in a state psychiatric institute, followed by communal supervisor until age 37.

Morgan Geyser was sentence to the maximum, 40 years to life, an indeterminate sentence involving at last 3 years locked confinement, in addition to involuntary treatment in a state psychiatric institute until complete resolution of symptoms or until age 53, whichever may happen first, followed by continued communal supervision, periodic reevaluations and/or reinstitution and further treatment as needed and as required by the sentence imposed.

While Morgan will periodically have the opportunity to petition for her release from a mental health facility in the future, she will remain under institutional care for the duration of the sentence. During her trial, Morgan had been committed to the Winnebago Mental Health Institute and was the youngest patient there.

At a court hearing on March 10, 2021, Morgan who was 19 then, submitted a letter to the court stating that shew as “sorry and deeply regretful for the agony, pain and fear I have caused,” not just toe Payton but to “my community as well.” Morgan stated that “I hate my actions on May 31, 2014, but through countless hours of therapy, I no longer hate myself for them.” The judge set a court date for June 2021 to consider her request.

In 2020, an appeals court rejected Morgan’s petition to be retried as a juvenile. Her attorney argued that she should have been charged with attempted second degree intentional homicide rather than first degree, and argued that Morgan gave statements to investigators before being read her Miranda rights. He has petitioned the State Supreme Court to review the ruling.

All because somebody seen it on the internet so they had to make it come to life. A young girls life was almost taken by her best friends and they could have cared less as long as it was to appease this “Slender Man.”
